Desired Candidate Profile
Primary responsibilities include the development activities associated with launching new categories on our Amazon websites, both in the US and internationally. In addition, you will be tasked with enhancing features currently in production by adding new capabilities and enhancements needed for Amazon to continue serving customers with the best experience possible. Other responsibilities include automation of support processes, development of monitoring solutions and building tools to help programmatically identify and diagnose the root cause of website issues. High Impact production issues often require coordination between multiple Operations and IT Support groups, so x-functional communication will be very important.
Excellent problem solving and coding skills are required to be successful in this position . Strong verbal communication skills are needed for coordinating with internal business teams and other software development groups. The ideal candidate is looking to expand their career in software development and to expand their coding skills by gaining exposure to a wide variety of software applications. The person who fits this role is organized, independent, self-motivating and can maintain professionalism under pressure.
Requirements
• Experience pulling together elements of effective web design, user interaction, and performance into a great customer experience.
• At least 5 years of real industry Experience : writing code and solving tough problems.
• Technical skills should include as many of the following as possible: JAVA, JavaScript, Perl, C++, Ruby, SQL, HTML and LINUX/UNIX. The ideal candidate doesn't need to know all of these languages, but will be able to learn quickly on the job.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ years relevant work experience
o Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design
o Computer Science fundamentals in data structures
o Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
o Proficiency in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as C++, C# or Java
o Familiarity with at least one website rendering technology such as PERL or JSP
o A good engineer will demonstrate that they can proactively and continually improve their level of knowledge about Amazon’s business and relevant technologies, and use this knowledge to deliver high quality, accurate software deliverables.
o Clear, professional communication skills able to contribute to team discussions, knowing when to contribute, when to listen, and when to ask questions.
o Experience developing in a Linux environment
